RVUSA General Meeting – February 2019

February 27, 2019 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Black History Month Celebration:
“Civil Rights on Long Island, Exploring the Past and Moving Forward”

Join RaisingVoicesUSA, the Anti-Racism Project, and the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center for a movie screening and discussion of “Defining Moments–The Civil Rights Movement in North Hempstead.” Meet the director, Alan Ginsberg, and Bernice Sims, who is featured in the documentary.

Ms. Sims will also discuss her book, “Detour Before Midnight,” a personal account of her time with the 1964 Freedom Summer Workers Chaney, Goodman, and Schwerner hours before they were murdered by the Mississippi KKK. (Copies of her book will be available for purchase.) Recent events make clear that there is still much to accomplish.

Members of RaisingVoices and the Anti-Racism Project will be on hand to discuss ways to move forward.

RSVP via Facebook or to info@raisingvoicesusa.org
