General Meeting Recap: “Countdown to Election Day: What’s at Stake & How to Help”

The first RVUSA general meeting of the 2018-2019 cycle on September 25 focused on voter engagement in the run-up to the 2018 midterm elections.

  • We heard from Michael Pernick, an attorney in the litigation department at Paul Weiss, a New York City law firm, on the complex and crucial topic of gerrymandering. Michael has an extensive pro bono voting rights practice and has worked on cases involving gerrymandering, voter ID laws, and a variety of other election law issues.
  • Emily Kilheeney, Regional Organizer for Long Island with the New York State Democratic Party, talked to us about participating in voter registration drives and getting involved with democratic party campaigns leading up to the midterms.
  • We heard all about Trick or Vote, an exciting new get-out-the-vote initiative being lead by high school students here on Long Island.
  • We also introduced our new website, TeeSpring store, and membership options!
