LGBTQ Advocacy/ HIV Advocacy
What was your first experience as an activist and what brought you to that cause?
My first experience in advocacy was around Marriage Equality for NYS as a college Sophmore. As a part of the community this is policy that was going to directly affect. Really, I was brought to social justice and advocacy because of self-interest and fell in love with it.
What initiative are you most proud of?
I am currently most proud of the “Undetectable = Untransmittable” or U=U campaign that we helped to bring to Long Island. It is a great message that helps destigmatize individuals living with HIV and encourage people to live healthier lives.
What projects are you working on now?
I am currently working on increasing the amount of affordable housing on Long Island for individuals living with HIV. This is a project that is led by Housing Works in New York City.
What advice would you give to someone raising their voice for the first time?
It’s okay to be angry. Use that feeling to construct something positive and make change. Also, you are not alone. Find people who provide positivity and surround yourself with them to work together.
