Can You Meet the Challenge?

The Raising Voices environmental committee wishes you a Happy New Year with a challenge: Make a resolution to protect our planet. Resolve to reduce your plastic consumption by 25%.

Suggestions to help you succeed:

  • Buy reusable, washable fruit and vegetable bags. Amazon sells them for a very reasonable amount.
  • Get a head start on the bag law slated to begin on March 1st. Get a fold up bag to keep in your purse or pocket.
  • Get a water filter on your kitchen sink. Fill your own water bottles to take with you on the go.
  • Buy a reusable straw in a pouch to keep in your bag.
  • Try keeping a reusable container in your car to bring with you to restaurants for leftovers.
  • Get your own coffee mug. Many coffee places will give you a discount if you have your own cup. Frequent those places so the others get a hint.
  • If you have no bag with you and you’re not buying a lot, say no to the bag.
  • Try to buy fruits and vegetables that are loose or packaged in cardboard with just a little wrap.
  • Ask the stores you frequent to revisit their packaging materials.
  • Consider purchasing items in cans or glass instead of plastic
